On October 20-21, 2022, BFUG Thematic Peer Group A on qualifications framework was held in Riga, Latvia. The meeting’s topic was “The Role of Micro-credentials in the National Qualifications Framework”. Ani Mkrtchyan, the senior specialist at ANQA’s Institutional and Programme Accreditation Division, participated as the RA representative.
The meeting’s purpose was to create a platform for the EHEA member states to discuss issues regarding the introduction and use of micro-credentials, as well as to provide them with an opportunity for the discussion on qualification frameworks’ key priorities. The meeting was the first event of Erasmus + “QUATRA-TPG A - Qualifications Frameworks for trust, transparency, and diversity - TPG A” programme. European approaches to micro-credentials and research results were presented during the meeting. Various interpretations, positions, and global initiatives on micro-credentials were talked over. The vast majority of Bologna signatory countries singled out micro-credentials as a key priority. The need to introduce quality assurance mechanisms for micro-credentials gained great importance. The EHEA member states presented the challenges and best practices of their countries.
At the end of the meeting, Ani Mkrtchyan, Armenia’s representative, was elected as the co-chair of the working group.
On the second day, meetings of working groups on self-certification, micro-credentials, and short-cycle qualifications took place. Further actions and scope of cooperation were also planned.
