On June 25 2009 in ANQA, a meeting with Armen Budaghyan, YSU Associate Vice-Rector, Ph.D., Associate Professor, took place. He has a good experience regarding the reforms within the framework of the Bologna Process implementation in our country and abroad.
The guest talked about his recent visit to the US with the aim of becoming familiar with accreditation procedure of American HEIs. The Vice-Rector told the officers mainly the mechanisms through which it is managed to effectively oversee and maintain education quality in US higher education system. The accreditation process in the US comprises two stages: institutional and programme. For institutional accreditation, general activity of a HEI is assessed.
Programme accreditation is implemented by professional unions. Responding to the questions of ANQA’s staff, the guest spoke about the procedure of creating a new profession in American HEIs, as well as the mechanisms for HEI self-evaluation process. The discussion extended to the current situation in this regard and possible developments in our education system. At the end of the meeting, ANQA representatives noted that such deep investigation of international experience is useful for the Centre’s activity in general and expressed hope for such meetings to become traditional.
