The National Center for Professional Education Quality Assurance started monitoring visits to the medical universities in Armenia which still don’t have institutional accreditation. The aim is to get to know the quality assurance processes in these universities and support in the preparations of institutional accreditation if needed.
ANQA specialists made their first visit to the Armenian Medical Institute, where they met with the rector Mr. Levon Asatryan. The rector informed that the institute is planning to apply for the institutional accreditation at the end of the year. The peculiarities of the organization and management of medical education and the current situation in the institute against 10 criteria of institutional accreditation were discussed. The need for the mandatory program accreditation of medical academic programs was also emphasized.
ANQA specialists also had meetings and discussions with the vice-rectors, specialists of quality assurance center, heads of chairs, and teaching staff. They also reviewed the documents.
In the near future, ANQA will conduct monitoring visits to the Medical University after Saint Teresa, University of Traditional Medicine, Yerevan Haybusak University, Yerevan Management University and etc.
Note that the only medical university in Armenia which has institutional accreditation is Yerevan State Medical University after M. Heratsi.
